Small businesses create two out of three jobs in the U.S. every year, and more than half of Americans own or work for a small business. The SBA (US Small Business Administration) is celebrating and recognizing America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners through National Small Business Week during May 4-8, 2015. This year’s theme is “Dream Big. Start Small.” Each year, national winners in small business will be recognized and awarded in their city. This year’s events will be held in Miami, Los Angeles, San Antonio, New York City and Washington, D.C.

Dream Big. Start Small. That’s just what founder Shane Thompson did when he opened Shane’s Rib Shack in 2002. He dusted off his grandfather’s secret sauce recipe and along with the support of wife Stacey, made his dream of owning a family BBQ restaurant come true. Shane’s Rib Shack is a true success story! What started in a tiny little shack in McDonough, Georgia has grown to become the model of fast casual BBQ. The shack became one of the nation's fastest growing fast casual BBQ restaurants in its first five years of business, as it grew from 2 locations in 2004 to 85 locations in 2008. The "Original" Shane's Rib Shack recently celebrated its 13th year of business here in Henry County.

“Small businesses are the lifeblood of our local economy. The owners and employees of these companies not only provide services, but they engage in acts of volunteerism and leadership all across our community. Henry County is a better place to live because of them, and they deserve our thanks and recognition for all their important contributions,” said Charlie Moseley, Executive Director of the Henry County Development Authority.

At the Henry County Development Authority, we understand a diversified economy is a successful economy. We support small businesses and encourage entrepreneurs to join the ecosystem by starting their companies in Henry. Inspiring and offering support to local entrepreneurs, we include small businesses and entrepreneurship support in our economic development strategy. Join us in celebrating small business in Henry County.
