 Eagle’s Brooke Golf & Country Club - Locust Grove

o Features two sets of tees for different skill levels

o The course measures 7,400 yards from the longest tees. The greens are L-93 Bentgrass, and the fairways are Bermuda grass.

Cotton Fields Golf Club - McDonough

o A beautiful 18-hole course designed on 150 acres with practice greens, a pro shop, a snack bar, and a spacious outdoor pavilion.

In 2014, Governor Nathan Deal and the Georgia Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office announced that all 159 Georgia counties were Camera Ready - meaning the state of Georgia would offer film productions with the following: financial incentives, location diversity, production resources, and professional support. The Georgia Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office offers production incentives that provide up to 30% of Georgia production expenditures in transferable tax credits. Their programs are available for qualifying projects like feature films, television series, commercials, music videos, animation and game development. With one of the industry’s most competitive production incentive programs, they can help production companies dramatically cut costs without sacrificing quality.

Summer Has Arrived!

School’s out, and summer fun is on our mind! Here are a few things to keep you busy in Henry this summer! These fun, family-friendly activities will keep you cool, full, and entertained but they won’t break the bank…

  • Splash Pad
    • The Splash Pad in Hampton is open Memorial Day through Labor Day, 7 days a week. It is free for Hampton residents, $5 for Henry County residents, and $10 for anyone living outside of Henry County.
  • Lunch at the Library
    • Free meals will be provided to children ages 18 and younger, June 5 through July 31, 2017 at each public library in Henry this summer. They will also provide fun, free summer educational reading programs for all ages.

Southern Crescent Tech: Henry County Center

On May 18, 2017, we attended the groundbreaking of Building B at Southern Crescent Technical College's Henry County Center in McDonough! This 82,500 square foot multi-level, state-of-the-art facility will house various medical, computer, and industrial training programs designed to meet the immediate workforce needs of the area.

Southern Crescent Technical College President Dr. Alvetta Thomas stated, “We are beyond excited to be celebrating the groundbreaking for this important asset to our college community. The Henry County business, education and government communities have long been supporters of Southern Crescent Technical College and this project is a model for true collaboration between all of these partners. This building is a great example of teamwork, dedication and vision and shows the commitment to education and workforce development from the leaders and citizens of Henry County.”

40th Annual Geranium Festival

Maybe you’ve heard of this small, little festival called the Geranium Festival? Okay, okay. Not small at all. In fact, this festival brings thousands (nearly 25,000) to Henry County each year, and is “one of the best festivals in all of Georgia.” 

This year marks the 40th annual Geranium Festival, and you don’t want to miss it! Artisans will be bringing their goods (jewelry, wood crafts, visual arts, clothing, accessories and more) from all over the southeast and will take over the McDonough Square. There will also be a children’s play area, many community business booths, and live music.

MADE IN HENRY- Celebrating Manufacturing

Governor Deal recently proclaimed April 24 - 28, 2017 as Manufacturing Appreciation Week (MAW). MAW was developed by the Technical College System of Georgia and the Georgia Department of Economic Development and will include an Awards Luncheon to be held April 27th at the Georgia International Convention Center. Several Henry County manufacturers have been nominated for awards.

DID YOU KNOW? Luxottica is the most recent addition to Henry’s impressive lineup of manufacturing companies. Luxottica Group, a leading eyewear designer, manufacturer and distributor, announced that they will create 1,000 jobs with the expansion of their North American facility in Henry County by the end of 2017. Over 600 of the new positions will be in production, with additional jobs in distribution and administration.

Henry County’s other advanced manufacturing companies include ALPLA, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of bottles and closures; Southern States, the largest switch manufacturer in North America; and Ken’s Foods, producer of high quality dressings, sauces and marinades.

Biking, walking, running, reading, or playing...whatever you and your family enjoy doing, you’re sure to be entertained throughout the year with the plethora of park options in Henry! (Your pets will love these parks too.)

 

Big Spring Park
There is a beautiful pond located at Big Spring Park just off the square in McDonough, along with walking trails, benches, a pavilion and a boardwalk with overlook. Big Spring is also now home to H.O.P.E. Park, a wheelchair-friendly park tailored to accommodate children of all abilities.
